CAPS Mathematics for Grades 4–12

Math Master is fully aligned with the South African CAPS Mathematics curriculum. The Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) is the official curriculum used in South African schools. Math Master maps every topic, exercise and assessment to the CAPS Mathematics curriculum for Grades 4 through 12.

From foundational number operations in Grade 4 to advanced calculus and statistics in Grade 12, Math Master provides structured learning support that follows the CAPS content strands across all three phases of schooling.

What is the CAPS curriculum?

The Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) is the official curriculum document used in South African public schools. It specifies what content must be taught and assessed in each subject at each grade level. For Mathematics, CAPS defines the content strands, learning outcomes and assessment standards that guide teaching and learning from Grade R through Grade 12.

Math Master follows the CAPS Mathematics curriculum to ensure that every learner using the platform is working through content that directly supports what they are learning in their South African school classroom.

CAPS Mathematics Content Strands

The CAPS Mathematics curriculum is organised into five content strands across all grades

🔢

Number Operations and Relationships

Whole numbers, integers, fractions, decimals, percentages and ratio. Developing number sense and fluency with operations across all grade levels.

🔣

Patterns, Functions and Algebra

Number patterns, algebraic expressions, equations, functions and graphs. Building from simple sequences to advanced functions in Grade 12.

📐

Space and Shape (Geometry)

2D and 3D shapes, angles, transformations, Euclidean geometry, analytical geometry and trigonometry.

📏

Measurement

Length, mass, volume, time, area, perimeter, surface area and volume of geometric solids and unit conversions.

📊

Data Handling and Probability

Collecting, organising and interpreting data, graphs, statistics, probability and counting principles.

CAPS Phases Covered by Math Master

The CAPS curriculum is structured into three phases for the grades Math Master covers:

Grades 4–6

Intermediate Phase

Building foundational number sense, basic operations, fractions, geometry and data handling. Learners develop fluency with whole numbers and are introduced to algebraic thinking.

Grades 7–9

Senior Phase

Transitioning to algebra, equations, integers, Euclidean geometry and more advanced measurement. Preparing learners for the FET band with comprehensive algebra and geometry foundations.

Grades 10–12

FET Band

Advanced Mathematics including trigonometry, calculus, analytical geometry, functions, statistics, financial mathematics and NSC exam preparation in Grade 12.
